Mississippi’s coronavirus ‘curve’ going the wrong way as infection rates on rise

Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus “curve” of new cases is clearly on the rise again with new infection rates reaching levels not seen in more than a month.

The state’s 7-day and 14-day, daily averages for new COVID-19 cases continued to rise Wednesday as the state reported another higher-than-average number of cases detected in the last 24 hours.

On Wednesday, the state reported 876 new cases, bringing the total cases since the pandemic began in March to 106,817. Of those cases, the state believes approximately 94,000 have recovered.

The state reported 25 new deaths Wednesday. Of those deaths, 25 actually occurred between July 28 and October 8.

A total of 3,140 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.

The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose to 654 with Wednesday’s update.

The 14-day, daily average rose to 616 cases per day.
